Transparency of government and open government data

Availability and large amounts of data are the basic characteristics of the new digital era. On the political and social arena, data gives power and influence and allows citizens, media and civil society to monitor the work of the institutions. Having this in mind, opening public data towards the public, as well as strengthening all aspects of government transparency are probably the most important processes in the society. Opening of the government data in machine readable formats, connecting them and presenting them to the public is the most important paradigm change in the functioning of the society that would get its real importance in the next period. All this is enabled by the development of new technologies and internet. POINT conference will offer presentations on projects of opening government data in different countries, monitoring data on budgets and public spending, different visualization of data, specific initiatives of community development on these issues, as well as projects related to the right to freedom of access to information.
