May 13, 2018 | by: point

This year’s POINT 7.0 conference will address the most current international and regional issues and challenges, and one of them for sure is the problem of Fake News spreading in SEE region. Why do we have so many fake news in public or social media, how they spread online and what can we do against them? These are some of the questions that will be discussed on panel “Countering Fake News and Media Manipulations in the SEE Region”. This panel will gather fresh and new fact-checking initiatives from Bosnia and Serbia.

“FakeNews Tragač”  from Serbia is web site and initiative intended for media workers, educators, journalists as well as future journalists and all citizens who want to join the fight against disinformation. It is the result of the Debunking Disinformation project of the Novi Sad School of Journalism done in cooperation with Transitions online organization from Prague. Their main idea is to build local capacities in Serbia, who would fight against media propaganda and disinformation in the public sphere. POINT conference will host Stefan Janjić as their representative.

Ras(Krik)avanje from Serbia and Raskrinkavanje from BiH are two fact-checking initiatives started in 2017 with the idea to debunk fake-news and disinformation. They monitor media content and based on its methodology, check and evaluate those whose credibility is questionable. Raskrinkavanje is project of CA “Why not” from Sarajevo while Raskrikavanje is the project of Krik from Serbia. On this panel discussion we going to have chance to hear more about them from Vesna Radojević (Krik) and Emir Zulejhić (Raskrinkavanje.ba).

Aleksandar Brezar is a journalist from Bosnia and Herzegovina who will also discuss about this topic. He has written and still writes for Balkanist, Massachusetts Review, Mediacentar and Analiziraj.ba – the media platform established with the aim of monitoring, analyzing and evaluating media content in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Panel discussion will be moderated by Darko Brkan, president of CA “Why not” from Sarajevo.
