Paolo Cesarini

EDMO

Paolo Cesarini is the Chair of the Executive Board of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and professor at the European University Institute in Florence.

Expert in media policies and EU competition law, he worked for many years at the European Commission in Brussels, where he led various initiatives addressing the technological transition of the European media industry, the interdependency of societal issues and digital media, online disinformation and the innovation gap between research, technology and culture.

He had a leading role in the establishment the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), a philanthropic initiative managed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, supporting fact-checking, research and media literacy projects across Europe.

He also collaborated with Teneo, a global CEO advisory firm providing counsel in management, strategy, and corporate communications, and worked at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva. He has been invited as visiting professor by various universities, (including Siena, Montpellier the VUB of Brussels and Luiss) and is a frequent public speaker and author of various publications.
