Seventh edition of POINT conference from 17th to 19th of May
The new, seventh edition of POINT conference will take place in Sarajevo from 17th to 19th of May in Art house Kriterion.
POINT 7.0 is the largest conference of this type in the region, that brings together more than 200 representatives of civil society organizations and activists from the region of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and other parts of the world, who are engaged in using new technologies to advocate responsible, transparent and safe society.
This year’s conference will address the most current international and regional issues and challenges, and will also offer several interesting workshops last day of the conference.
Some of the topics that will be addressed this year, on the presentations, panel discussions and workshops will be fact checking and media literacy in the region and the world; how to use technology to counter dangerous speech; smart cities; US politics in post-truth age; openness of government and many more.
On POINT 7.0 we will talk about the journalism in the digital world with Aliaume Leroy, BellingCat researcher and open source investigative journalist for the Africa Investigations unit of BBC World Service and Jeremy Druker from Transitions Online from Czech Republic.
“How do Fake News and Foreign Influence Get Along?” is the name of the topic that will be discussed with Miriam Lexman from IRI Beacon Project and Lucas Graves from Reuters Institute.
Adam Chodikoff, Senior Producer of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will talk on how to mash facts with comedy.
Also, as in previous years, we’ll be having presentations of regional projects that have been developed in the past year.
POINT conference is a regional conference of civil society organizations from 7 countries of Southeast Europe, who are intensively engaged in using new technologies in their work.
POINT seeks to be a platform for civil society that encourages the use of new technologies – tool for education about the use of new technologies and social networks; forum for exchange of views and experiences; incubator for the development of ideas, projects and strategies; virtual place for networking and informing socially conscious Internet users; as well as a social network for exploring and searching for partners and associates and building coalitions.
POINT 7.0 is organized by ACTION SEE network, whose members are „Zašto Ne“ from BiH, CRTA (Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability) from Serbia, Foundation Metamorphosis from Macedonia and Center for Democratic Transition from Montenegro. Network is financed by EU.
The conference is organized in cooperation with National Endowment for Democracy, The Balkan Trust for Democracy, GONG (Co-funded by Europe for Citizens program of the European Union), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Friedrich Naumann Stiftung, TransparenCEE network and the US Embassy in BiH.
POINT conference is being held since 2012.
