Moldir Utegenova is a Project Manager at MediaNet International Centre for Journalism and a contributor to Factcheck.kz, Central Asia’s first fact-checking platform and a member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). Her work focuses on countering disinformation, promoting media literacy, protecting digital rights, advancing gender equality, and strengthening information integrity across Central Asia.
Over the years, she has managed regional and international projects supporting independent journalism, civil society resilience, and responses to information manipulation and emerging digital challenges. Her experience includes coordinating research, advocacy initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs for journalists, fact-checkers, and civil society organizations. Most recently, she has coordinated initiatives focused on countering financial disinformation and online fraud through fact-checking, media literacy, and public awareness campaigns.
Moldir is a former Advocacy Fellow for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at Access Now, where she worked on issues related to internet governance, surveillance, platform accountability, and internet shutdowns. She has represented MediaNet at international forums, including RightsCon and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), contributing to discussions on digital governance, information integrity, and human rights in the digital age. Moldir holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
